Blerg

Here's the scoop, Internet.  I need a favour from you.  I have just had what is most likely the second-most craptastic day in the history of days.

{I say "second-most" because, if pressed, I'm sure I could come up with a slightly more crappy scenario than the one I lived through today...and I don't want to tempt the Universe into delivering it to me just to prove that I've gone too far with my penchant for exaggeration, this time.}

As a result, I really need to hear some nice things.  Tell me some nice things, will ya?  I don't care WHAT you say, just make it nice.  Please.  I'm begging you.  Nice and pretty and nice.  And nice.

For example: you could say "spring is coming".  {Albeit, not where I live (we still have another month or so of snow to contend with), but in some places in the world, it's getting springy}.  Another example: "the sun was shining today and I got to spend time with a good friend".  See?  So nice.

If you promise me that you will say nice things, I will give you a treat.  Like an update on my sweater.  How about it?  You promise?  Ok, here you go:

(FYI: if you're annoyed at how long it's taking you to finish a knitting project, I highly recommend getting sick and lying around for 4 days...works like a charm)

The sleeves are turning out to be a *little* big, but I'm thinking I'm going to make them ribbed, so they snug up a bit.  Still pondering that one...

Flapped open, so you can see the ribbing at the hem and up the side "seam".

And...an artsy shot, just for the heck of it.

I'm still not clear on how it will close, but I'll figure that out later.  Told you I was flying by the seat of my pants.

So, lay some nice thoughts on me, will ya?

  1. Spring is springing where I live! (Raleigh, NC) It was a gorgeous day and I lifted my mother's low spirits by buying her tulips and giving her ample alone quality time with her 10 month old grandson. Also, my son is beginning to walk!! W00T! This sends me over the moon!

    I hope you feel better! I find your ability to do almost anything yourself truly inspiring! <3 A reader from Sweet Juniper!

  2. I've been having some particularly nasty days recently, too, so I don't have anything terribly uplifting to say. However, spring is coming pretty soon. We've had two warm days that are total flukes, but I appreciate them all the same.

    That said, I think your sweater looks pretty awesome. I've got the cowl/vest from the cover of knitscene on my needles, and only halfway up the back it's becoming pretty clear that I'm short on yarn. Dammit.

    Anyway, spring. It'll be here soon(ish). Also, nice things.

  3. Oh my GOD, that's awesome! This is better than Prozac, people. Tulips!?! And grandmas?!?!

    Fabulous. Add some chocolate chip cookies to that image and you have heaven.

    And pshaw on the compliment - you're too kind!

  5. That color of yarn is spectacular! I love, love that you put great details in your projects like the side seam. I wonder if you're going to use some fantastic buttons, or no?

    I know it's crap-tasticly cold, and I sympathize with you. Here's my favorite pick-me-up, clean sheet night. I swear it's like I snorted sunshine when I change my sheets and use my higher quality ones. Sliding into bed is sooo luxurious.

  6. I second the colour comments - gorgeous.

    Nice things: it's definitely spring-like here, with bulbs and leaves shooting up right, left and centre. On top of that, we have had four bright, crisp sunny days in a row, which, in rain-laden Devon, is cause for celebration! And on top of THAT, my daughter slept through the night last night for the first time in weeks, meaning that, despite having yet another bout of cough/cold, I am feeling reasonably chipper this morning.

    Hope the sun starts shining on you, literally and metaphorically, very soon. And looking forward to hearing more about the jumper!

  7. On bad days like that, pour yourself a nice cup of tea, put your legs in warm water, a woolen blanket on your knees, some nice music, and knit, knit, knit. It usually helps. Hope today is a sunny day at your place. And spring will come. Eventually. Meanwhile, remember that the above mentioned treatment works best when it's cold and dark, so enjoy it while you can!

    Looks like a lovely color on that cardigan, I'm sure it'll turn out great, good luck figuring out the rest of it!

  8. Awww, you guys are so nice. I won't say I feel great, but I did actually manage to sleep for a few hours and your wonderful comments have brightened my morning. Time to take Tora up on that cup of tea and take a nice hot shower. There's no time for knitting until I get home tonight, but maybe I'll pick up a movie on the way home...(movies are knitting time, by the way - if you can teach yourself to knit while looking at a screen, you'll be as happy as a clam).

    Thanks again for all your well wishes! Any guilt I may have felt in shamelessly demanding for some positive reinforcement is completely gone.

  9. Oh, and "clean sheet night"? I totally get it. Clean sheet night is almost always Sunday night around these parts. Sunshine snorting, indeed.

    @Kyla: xoxo.

  11. Thank you, my Sweets. I had an equally crap day today, but you're right - this situation I am finding myself in is going to clear up and fade away into distant memory, someday soon. I am just tired and it's winter and I always feel like this at this time of the year. Nothing to get too worked up about, eh?

    Yes, I did just say "eh". It's true what they say about us Canucks.

  12. What the heck, lady? You're supposed to call me when you have days like this - what else are sisters for?!?

    Here are my nice thoughts: Your sweater looks super-cozy & I love the colour. After a few days of hard work, I'm actually liking my new apartment (HUZZAH!!). This weekend's forecast is fantastic (10 degrees on Saturday! In March!!! In WINNIPEG!!!)

    Hang in there D, it'll get better. I recommend puppy dog kisses and bear hugs from the J-man.

  13. @Trish: xoxo I didn't call you because you had your own *blerg* to deal with. Plus, it was kinda late. Aaaaand, I didn't feel like getting all blubbery, which I'm pretty sure would have happened. But you're right about the puppykisses and bearhugs. They do help.
